Day Three: Dragging themselves from the cellophane-encrusted haze of an overwhelming array of drugs, liquor and an impossible line-up of DJs & live PAs all across Miami, attendees of the Winter Music Conference 2000 wriggled back to the bar (and poolside) for another round of networking. While vocalists, DJs and producers showed off their stuff on the main stage, scenesters wandered about the hotel collecting promo materials and making contacts. Enthusiasm remained high, even though the majority of the conference participants were swimming through a hazy molasses resulting from several days of sleep deprivation, lack of food, far too many cigarettes (and other smokables), loud music, chaotic swarms of phreaky people and general information overload. It was perfect.
After chatting it up with the likes of Toronto's MC Flipside and infamous producer Richard Dekkard (Sasha, Kimball Collins), the RadioValve crew immersed itself into every possible promotion opportunity. While some attendees gossipped rumors that Mighty (of Smith & Mighty) had died at his hotel earlier that afternoon (none of these reports have been confirmed), others tried to make plans with newly found friends to hook up with later in the evening at one of the 10 or so stellar events going on throughout the city. The wonderful women of Raveographer.com (Marina and Sally) shot video of interviews given by E23 and guests that both crews collectively assembled. And then the RV was invited to webcast an event which promised the talents of Lenny Dee, T-1000 and Frankie Bones, but alas, the cruddy club owners (of a not-to-be-named South Beach venue) chose to shut the doors early because there simply weren't enough people clearly having a good time with fine music to pack the space. I guess someone forgot to tell them it was really about the music after all.
The night was not wasted since other amazing parties were being thrown throughout South Beach. The crew decided to end the night at the "AM Session" party being thrown at "The Mission". The line up included Carl Cox, DJ Dan, Bad Boy Bill, Simply Jeff, John Aquaviva, Terry Francis, Adam Freeland, Terry Mullan, Dara, and Dieselboy. The party ended with Donald Glaude destroying the competition with a set of banging hard house reinforced by his amazing scratching and turn-tablist trickery. The glimmer of sunlight rising from behind the Atlantic Ocean told us that another day of WMC 2000 had ended, and another was beginning.
