WMC2000 Tuesday March 28

Tuesday proved to be the hardest working day for the RadioValvesters at the Winter Music Conference. Before we could enjoy the multitude of parties and mingling, we had to spend a few hours on the web site updating the interviews, pictures, and field reports. A few hours were spent at the Radisson Deauville networking with the various characters that comprise the underground scene like promoter Bo Basic, Jason of Synesthesia, DJ Moda and Hardy from SOMA. Afterwards we were required to put on our business faces and talk dollars with investors. Once the sun set and the meetings were over, business turned to pleasure.

As with every other night, there were too many amazing parties to attend this night. We found ourselves at the XLR8R Magazine party that was held poolside at the Clevelander Hotel. The lineup included Jazzanova, Truby Trio, Fauna Flash, Baby Mammoth, Alex Kid, Glenn Underground, Alton Miller, Disco D, DJ Di'jital, and Freq Nasty. We spent some time hanging around the pool with old friends like DJ Burdy of Baby Mammoth and some time with new friends like the boys from Swayzac and the crew from Beta Lounge. Unfortunately, like every where else in South Beach, the prices were awful ($6 a beer!) and the bar was crowded with rude and shallow patrons.

The next party we attended was the Om party being thrown at the ultra-loungey Lola bar. The rooms were filled with comfortable couches, lit by candlabras and filled with hazy clouds of smoke. The patrons here were relaxed and mellow and every hand seemed to hold immense martini glasses filled with magical concoctions. The music was as smokey as the room and featured artists included Mark Farina, J. Boogie, Afro Mystik, DJ Spinner , John Howard, Ming+FS, and PimpRekker. The down-tempo style and casual mood was the perfect thing for our last night at the WMC.
